FFKM O-Rings

FFKM is the top-tier elastomer family for the most demanding chemical and high-temperature applications. It is typically selected only when lower-cost materials cannot deliver acceptable service life or process reliability.

Typical temperature rangeAbout -25°C to +240°C typical, with specialty grades extending significantly higher.
Other namesFFKM, Perfluoroelastomer
Hardness optionsFFKM is commonly selected by compound family and application rather than by hardness alone.
Compliance optionsDepending on compound, FFKM may be available with pharma and biotech suitability, semiconductor high-purity grades, low-particle options, and process-specific declarations.

Best used for

  • Critical chemical service
  • Very high temperature
  • Demanding process environments
  • Semiconductor and high-purity applications
  • Pharma and biotech process sealing

Key advantages

  • Outstanding chemical resistance
  • Premium temperature capability
  • Elastomeric sealing behavior with extremely broad compatibility
  • Useful in critical, high-value process applications

Performs well in

  • Highly aggressive process chemicals
  • Solvents
  • Acids
  • Bases
  • Amines in suitable grades
  • Steam in specialty grades

Use with caution or avoid

  • Cost-sensitive applications
  • Cases where lower-grade elastomers already perform adequately
  • Selection based only on the polymer name without compound review

Typical applications

  • Semiconductor equipment
  • Chemical processing systems
  • Biotech and pharma process systems
  • High-purity process lines
  • Vacuum and high-temperature process sealing

Common industries

  • Semiconductor
  • Chemical processing
  • Pharma and biotech
  • Aerospace
  • Oil and gas
  • Advanced industrial process equipment

When to choose FFKM

Choose FFKM only when lower-cost materials cannot survive the chemistry, temperature, or process risk and failure would be very costly.

When not to choose FFKM: Avoid or review carefully for standard industrial service that NBR, EPDM, HNBR, or FKM can already handle, or where the exact compound has not been matched to the process.

Selection guide

This is a practical selection guide. Final material choice should always be checked against actual fluid, temperature, pressure, movement, environment, and any approval requirement for the exact compound.
